Robert Daughters (1929–2013) was an American painter celebrated for his expressive depictions of the landscapes and cultures of the American Southwest, particularly New Mexico and Arizona. Raised in St. Joseph, Missouri, he served in the U.S. Army before studying at the Kansas City Art Institute and School of Design, later enjoying a successful career in commercial art before committing fully to fine art. Daughters lived and worked for decades in Santa Fe and Taos, where his vibrant, bold brushwork and dynamic use of color—often outlined with dark contours—brought the region’s light, terrain and traditions to life; he exhibited widely, received awards including the 2004 Master’s of the Southwest, and was featured in Southwest Art magazine. His work remains sought after for its energetic blend of impressionistic and expressionist elements.
