Robert Brooks was born in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1922, and first began exploring sculpture and drawing in grade school. As a teenager he operated his own sign making business and entered every art competition he could, taking morning classes on Saturdays at the Swain School of Design that eventually led to him being awarded a scholarship to Boston's Vesper George School of Art. Discovering that watercolors were his passion, he began working in the design department of a large textile printing company until he went to serve in the South Pacific during World War II, where he won several awards at Servicemen’s Exhibitions. After returning to the states he established a long running studio in the Cape Cod community of Hyannis, and dedicated the majority of his paintings and watercolors to the many points of interest and seaside sights within the area. A full member of the Copley Society and the Cape Cod Art Association who routinely offered art lessons to local youths, he died in 1992, leaving behind a legacy that can still be found displayed in galleries and museums throughout New England.
