Robert James Baxter (b. early 1930s) is a respected American illustrator-turned-fine-artist, merging narrative and figurative painting in oils, watercolors, and prints. Trained at Chouinard, Baxter balanced a successful commercial career in New York with a strong teaching presence and later, a flourishing artistic life in both Connecticut (USA) and Provence (France). He is celebrated for his contributions to the American Watercolor Society and exhibitions across northeastern galleries. Notably, he was prominently featured at the Dabbert Gallery in Sarasota, where his solo and group exhibitions garnered regional acclaim. His paintings continue to reside in public and institutional collections, with modest but consistent auction demand.
