Richard E. Aaron (April 23, 1949 – December 8, 2016) was an American music and entertainment photographer celebrated for capturing some of the most iconic images of rock ’n’ roll history over a career spanning more than three decades. Best known for photographing approximately 4,000 musical artists, Aaron’s work appeared on hundreds of album covers, including Frampton Comes Alive!, and in more than 45,000 magazines, newspapers, and books worldwide. He shot the first rock-and-roll Time magazine cover featuring Paul McCartney and Wings and photographed legendary figures such as David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Bob Marley, and Led Zeppelin. Recognized by Modern Photography as one of the “10 Best Rock Photographers” in the world, Aaron was known for combining the energy of live performance with intimate portraiture, and his work also extended into film, television, and publicity photography.
