This is a portrait of a Madonna under glass. It is a religious portrait and reads in part “Maria ab saam in Tirol”, which translates roughly to “Maria ... together in Tyrol”. We don’t know who the artist is, but Tyrol is part of Austria, and it’s bounded by Germany on the north, Salzburg on the east, and Vorarlberg on the west, so the painting is probably by an alpine or European artist. The overall size is 19 1/4 x 15 1/4 in. wide and the sight size is 12 1/4 x 8 1/4 in. wide.
