R. Wallace & Sons Mfg Co. Hand Hammered Sterling Silver Oval Tray or Shallow Bowl - 8.075 ozt
R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. of Wallingford, Connecticut, stands as one of the most historically significant and enduring names in American sterling silver and plated ware.
Robert Wallace founded his namesake company in 1833, initially producing Britannia and German silver spoons. Over the next few decades, the firm underwent several partnerships and reorganizations, including R. Wallace & Co. (1855) and Wallace, Simpson & Co. (1865). By 1870, Robert Wallace took full control, renaming it R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. with his sons and son-in-law.
In 1875, the Wallace Brothers co-partnership was formed, focusing on silverplate flatware and hollowware, which was later re-absorbed by R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. The company expanded internationally with a Canadian plant in 1924. In the 1950s, after acquiring other silver companies, the firm became Wallace Silversmiths (1956). It subsequently passed through several corporate acquisitions, eventually becoming part of Lifetime Brands in 2006.
