R.C. Gorman (1931-2005) Navajo, Monumental Signed Lithograph. "Women of Taos". Signed and dated 1988 in lower left. The sweeping composition depicts a line of ten stylized Indigenous women wrapped in colorful woven shawls and blankets, walking in procession across a Southwest desert landscape. In the background stands the iconic, sunlit earthen buttresses of the San Francisco de Asís Mission Church in Taos, New Mexico, set against a rich gradient blue sky. Gorman's signature fluid line work and soft pastel palette accentuate the quiet dignity and sculptural form of the figures.
