The Eisenhower Apollo 11 silver dollar, often referred to as the Eisenhower dollar, was a commemorative coin issued by the United States from 1971 to 1978. It was the first dollar coin minted in the U.S. since the Peace dollar was discontinued in 1935. The coin features President Dwight D. Eisenhower on the obverse and an adaptation of the Apollo 11 mission insignia on the reverse, celebrating the historic moon landing in 1969. Designed by Frank Gasparro, the coin's production included both a copper-nickel clad version for circulation and a 40% silver version for collectors. The Eisenhower dollar holds a unique place in U.S. numismatics due to its design and the era it represents.
