The Poole Silver Company was first formed in 1892 by George Poole and Edward Roche in Taunton, Massachusetts as Poole, Roche & Co., then established as a corporation on May 21, 1895. As an early manufacturer of silver products made with electroplating techniques, they quickly expanded by 1900 into a two-room factory at 106 Whittenton Street. Poole bought out Roche in 1905 and managed the company on his own until his death ten years later. His three sons continued the business until 1946, when they sold the company to a group headed by Sidney A. Kane. They began to produce sterling silver flatware, hollowware, and cutlery, with the very popular Bristol Silver division created in 1950 and the brass division formed in 1964. In 1971 the company was bought by Towle Silversmiths, who shuttered production at the small factory and was eventually bought out themselves by Lifetime Brands in 2020, making them part of a conglomerate that also produces pieces by other historic brands like Gorham, International Silver, Kirk Stieff, and Tuttle and Wallace.
