Piaget SA is a Swiss luxury watchmaker and jeweler founded in 1874 by Georges Edouard Piaget in the village of La Cote-aux-Fees in the Jura mountains. First dedicated to crafting pocket watches and high-precision clock movements, the company pivoted to wristwatches once his son Timothee took over the firm. His grandchildren Gerald and Valentin registered the Piaget brand trademark in 1943, producing its own creations instead of simply manufacturing for others. In the late 1950s and 60s the company focused on ultra-thin movements, first hand-wound and then automatic, opening a new factory in Geneva to produce ring, brooch, and cufflink watches, as well as jewelry. Yves Piaget, the founder’s great-grandchild, took over the company in 1980, and in 1998 they were purchased by Vendome Group (now Richemont), developing numerous new collections with interchangeable wristbands.
