Peter Max (Born 1937) is a prolific American artist who became a leading figure in the psychedelic art movement of the 1960s. Born in Germany, his childhood in Shanghai and later studies in Paris greatly influenced his vibrant style, which he said was inspired by the colors and "calligraphic ballet" of a Buddhist temple. After moving to New York, Max studied at the Art Students League and developed his renowned style of bold graphics, vibrant colors, and cosmic imagery. His distinctive artworks, which transcended traditional boundaries and captured the rapidly changing zeitgeist, continue to inspire audiences worldwide.
