Botemir rugs, primarily woven near Hamadan in Northwestern Iran, are uniquely defined by the frequent use of the Boteh motif, an ancient, highly stylized leaf cluster often arranged in alternating, repeating rows across the field. While the style shows strong Kurdish and Turkish influences, many Botemir rugs originate near Arak (Sultanabad), a crucial rug-producing region. Woven using hand-spun, vegetable-dyed wool with the Persian asymmetrical knot, these rugs are sought after by collectors and decorators for their distinct patterns, which are often less busy than typical floor coverings.
Significant fading and discoloration throughout.
