Peking Glass Calligraphy Brush Pot. The raised kanji and symbols surrounding the pot are in a rich cobalt blue against the stark white background, and offer a classical Chinese poem regarding patience in the face of adversity.

Size: 3 1/2 x 10 in.

Peking glass is a highly decorative form of Chinese glassware developed during the late Qing dynasty, particularly in workshops associated with the imperial court in Beijing (historically known as Peking). The technique involves layering colored glass over a core of contrasting glass and then carving or cutting away parts of the outer layer to create intricate relief designs, often featuring floral motifs, landscapes, or calligraphic patterns. Known for its jewel-like appearance and meticulous craftsmanship, Peking glass was originally produced for elite use and imperial patronage, and it remains highly valued today as both a collectible art form and an example of refined traditional Chinese glassworking techniques.
