Paul Tamanian is a self-taught contemporary artist based in Tallahassee, Florida, known for his bold abstract work on metal and sculptural forms. Originally trained in interior design, Tamanian shifted into the art world in his mid-30s, beginning with ceramics before transitioning to mixed-media painting on aluminum and large-scale sculpture.

His creative process is highly experimental and physical—using auto paints, inks, fire, water, gravel, and even torches to manipulate surfaces. Tamanian forgoes traditional brushes, opting instead for techniques like scraping, sanding, and spraying to build richly textured, vibrant compositions. His work is both energetic and meditative, reflecting influences from abstract expressionism and modernist design.

Tamanian’s art spans from intricate metal wall pieces to freestanding sculptures and even customized surfboards. He has exhibited nationally, with shows in Atlanta, Miami, San Francisco, and across Florida. In recent years, he opened his own expansive gallery space in Tallahassee, solidifying his presence as a dynamic force in contemporary art.
