The book has four horizontal bands on the spine, a red label with gilt lettering, brown boards, blank endpapers stamped “Sylvanus Bourne’s Book”, it is 204 pages long, the first edition was published in 1669, followed by another edition in 1721, then reprinted in 1772 and 1826. Nathaniel Morton (1613 - 1685) was born in the Netherlands and came to America on the Anne in 1623; his father died shortly after that, and Morton came to live with his uncle, Governor William Bradford; Morton became Secretary of the colony and keeper of the records after Bradford died, and Morton became custodian of all of Bradford’s writings.
