Mid Century cast bronze and copper two-part wind chimes with sculptural chains created by the maestro at his Cosanti/Arcosanti studios in Arizona. Paolo Soleri (1919-2013) was an Italian-born visionary architect, urban theorist, and craftsman best known for pioneering the concept of “arcology,” a design philosophy combining architecture and ecology to create hyper-dense, self-contained cities. After studying under Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin West, he settled in Arizona, where he established the Cosanti Foundation and began his lifelong exploration of organic design and earth-casting techniques. In 1970 Soleri initiated his most famous living experiment, Arcosanti, an experimental town in the Arizona desert designed to demonstrate compact, energy-efficient urban living. To support his architectural research and construction projects, he designed iconic bronze and ceramic wind bells, which remain highly sought sculptural art pieces. Through his writings, visionary designs, and hands-on craftsmanship, Soleri left a lasting legacy at the intersection of utopian architecture, ecological sustainability, and fine art metalwork that inspired a generation of architects, artisans, and designers.
