Pair of Palecek National Geographic Home Collection Wood Beaded Pedestals. One taller, one shorter. Both with labels on the base explaining their origins and "Made in Philippines" on them. 

Condition: Good. 

Sizes: 8 1/4 x 35 in., 8 3/4 x 28 in. 

When Kansas-born Allan H. Palecek joined the Air Force straight out of college in the late 60s, he wound up piloting missions in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He left the service with a passion for travel and a love of the handwoven natural-fiber accessories he had seen throughout Asia, and procured his first shipment of rattan baskets to sell in San Francisco in 1974. Dividing his time between his headquarters in the Bay Area and in Southeast Asia, he soon brought his son Andrew T. Palecek into the fold. Andrew grew up as the business grew, absorbing the culture his father had created by persistently prioritizing relationships, partnerships, and quality above profit. Andrew joined the executive team in 2004, and oversaw creative direction for the company more and more and Allan began to look toward retirement. Allan was inducted into the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame in 2020 in recognition of his inventiveness, his strategic leadership, and his contributions to the trade.
