A candelabrum (plural candelabra, but also used as the singular form in modern times) is a candle holder with multiple arms. The term “candelabra” can be used to describe a variety of candle holders including chandeliers, although those exclusively hang from the ceiling while all other forms can be carried or rested on a surface. The Romans used the term to describe a form of ornamental lighting, and in Judaism the menorah and hanukkiah are special kinds of candelabra. Candelabra are also used in church ceremonies in certain Eastern Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Church liturgy, such as the dikirion and trikirion.
