Pair of Antique 1912 English Titanic Themed Gold Filled Cufflinks From Southampton. Original box. The image of the legendary ship is on both. A piece of paper in the box indicates its exciting origins, reading "Purchased by your grandfather in Southampton on 11 April 1912" and the name of the tragic cruise liner. Indecipherable words stamped on the backs.

Provenance: Bought a day after launch and four days before the sinking of the famous White Star Ocean Liner on her maiden voyage by the consignor's grandfather in Southampton, England.

Box Size: 3 x 1 1/4 x 1 in.

Conceived in 1907 by the White Star Line to dominate transatlantic travel through sheer scale and luxury, the RMS Titanic was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Lauded as an engineering marvel of its era, the massive ocean liner officially departed Southampton on April 10th, 1912, carrying over 2,200 passengers and crew on its highly anticipated maiden voyage to New York City. Four days into the journey, late on the night of April 14th, the vessel struck an iceberg in the icy waters of the North Atlantic, breaching several of its watertight compartments. Within three hours the ship broke apart and sank in the early morning hours of April 15th, resulting in the loss of more than 1,500 lives due to a fatal shortage of lifeboats and inadequate emergency protocols. The catastrophe shocked the world, driving immediate global reforms in maritime safety, including mandatory lifeboat capacity for all passengers, 24-hour radio monitoring, and the creation of the International Ice Patrol. With the discovery of its wreck in 1985 and its enduring presence in pop culture including one of the most successful films in the annals of Hollywood, Titanic remains history’s most famous and haunting symbol of human ambition, achievement, and hubris.
