Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, and one of the most revolutionary artists of the 20th century, renowned for co-founding the Cubist movement and reshaping the boundaries of visual art. Born in Málaga, Spain, Picasso demonstrated extraordinary talent from a young age and pursued formal training in Barcelona and Madrid before moving to Paris, where he became a central figure in the modernist avant-garde. His prolific career is marked by distinct periods—including the melancholic Blue Period, the more joyful Rose Period, and his groundbreaking Cubist phase, developed with Georges Braque. Picasso constantly reinvented his style, experimenting with form, symbolism, and abstraction across painting, sculpture, ceramics, and collage. Masterpieces such as Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907) and Guernica (1937) highlight his impact on both aesthetics and political expression. Endlessly innovative and often controversial, Picasso remains one of the most influential and celebrated artists in history.
