Overall Size: 13 x 16 x 1 1/4 in.
Sight Size: 8 3/4 x 11 1/2 in.
Otto Doorenbos was born in Amsterdam in 1942. Like many Dutch boys, Otto dreamed of sailing on the ocean. At the age of fourteen he began his journey on the water. As a sailor he spent most of his spare time making drawings and began doing oil paintings at the age of 18. Otto later studied under masters from the Hague School such as D. Mulhaus and A. Schwarz. Enchanted by the works of the old masters he made frequent visits to the museums in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. He was especially impressed with, and studied, the marine paintings of these masters. At the age of 23 Otto began selling his paintings. His paintings were first sold in Holland, and then in Germany, England, and France. Otto uses a mixture of his imagination and old photographs for many of his summer landscapes and winter scenes. Otto Doorenbos and his family have been traveling since 1975. They are presently residing in Sausalito where they are restoring an old wooden sailboat. They hope that soon they'll be setting their sails for Europe.
