Onésime-Aristide Croisy (1840-1899) was a French sculptor celebrated for his finely modeled figures that blend classical restraint with tender emotional realism. A pupil of François Jouffroy and Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux at the École des Beaux-Arts, Croisy came of age in the era of the French Third Republic, when sculpture often served both civic pride and private sentiment. He’s best remembered for Le Nid (The Nest), a marble group depicting two sleeping children so delicately carved that it became a touchstone of late 19th-century French sentimental sculpture. Croisy exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, producing both public monuments and intimate domestic works, and his style reflects that period’s fascination with human vulnerability rendered in stone—graceful, precise, and quietly humane.
