Vintage Norwegian Ekornes Stressless Black Reclining and Swiveling Chair. Comfortable leather upholstery and teakwood support. Marked on metal bar. 

Size: 46 x 34 x 38 1/2 in. 

The Stressless line of furniture was created by the Norwegian-based company Ekornes AS (originally called J. E. Ekornes Fjærfabrikk) in 1971. Jens Ellingsen Ekornes (1908-1976) started the company in 1934 after having worked for his brother Sigurd at Ørsta Lenestolfabrikk since his early twenties. Starting in 1947 he began making yearly trips to England, France and Germany to explore evolving trends in furniture-making. He also visited the United States several times from the 1960s onward, where he was one of the first to successfully market their prime item, an innovatively designed mattress. In 1960 Jens’s brothers Leif and Martin became co-owners, and in 1966 Ekornes started production of lounge furniture, increasingly focused on combining comfort and functionality.
