Noch GmbH & Co. KG, from Wangen im Allgäu (stylized by the company as NOCH) is a manufacturer and importer of accessories for model trains, especially for building landscapes. The company was founded in 1911 by Oswald Noch in Glauchau in Saxony, Germany. They became known for a large range of ready-made terrains in synthetic materials, as well as crafting highly detailed small-scale Railbags, miniature railroads that fit inside tiny cases. They also distributed for other companies, including Athearn and Kato. In 1940 Oswald’s son Erich, who had taken over the company after his father’s death, suspended all production when he was conscripted to fight in World War II. After the war he restarted the company, but because of the nationalization of the East German government he fled to the West in 1957, leaving all assets and property behind. He established a new business first in Munich and then moved to Allgäu in 1961. His son Peter became his partner and production manager in 1978, and the company converted to a GmbH & Co. KG at that time. After Erich’s death in 1989, Peter Noch led the company by himself until his son Rainer joined in 1994, taking over fully when Peter died in 1997. Many Noch pieces are designed to be compatible with Märklin, Fleischmann (model railroads), Kato, and Trix trains, offering over 1000 products for the model railway hobby including landscaping materials and accessories. Since the dawn of the new Millennium NOCH has also offered extremely niche pieces for gaming enthusiasts as well, including tools and terrains to create miniature environments in the style of Dungeons & Dragons and even Warhammer 40,000.
Commensurate with age.
