Nickolas Muray (1892-1965) American/Hungarian, Gelatin Silver Photograph Print Alongside Autograph Album Sheet. A framed double-window ensemble celebrating the pioneers of American modern dance, Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn (founders of the influential Denishawn School and Company). The right window features a vintage black-and-white gelatin silver studio photograph by renowned celebrity photographer Nickolas Muray depicting St. Denis and Shawn in exotic Orientalist theatrical attire. St. Denis is posed standing in a embellished midriff costume before a tented structure, while Shawn sits at her side holding a drum. The left window houses a cream album sheet boldly autographed in fountain pen ink by both dance figures, featuring Ted Shawn's characteristic flourish signature above Ruth St. Denis's sweeping hand, dated May 13, 1948.
