Moroccan tribal kilim rugs are flat-woven textiles with roots dating back thousands of years, first created by indigenous Berber (Amazigh) tribes in the Atlas Mountains for functional, domestic use. The kilim process itself originated in Central Asia, and likely spread into Africa some time around the beginning of the Common Era. Historically woven by women, these rugs tell stories through geometric, symbolic patterns representing fertility, protection, and daily life, utilizing local wool and natural dyes.
