The rounded square top above the X-shaped base with brass braces holding them together is reminiscent of a style scene in the film "Inland Empire," designed to be functional while making the space appear larger and more clear.

Founded in New York City in 1960 by Irving and Leon Rosen, The Pace Collection was a high-end contemporary furniture company. To serve the contract interior design trade, the company originally opened a showroom on East 62nd Street in Manhattan and advertised widely in design periodicals. Their distinctive desks, tables, and cabinets stood out from competitors by combining rich, exotic wood veneers and high-gloss finishes with polished stainless steel trim, eventually expanding into modern glass and lucite constructions as well. The founders prioritized original designs, choosing to patent many of their unique chairs, sofas, shelves, and accessories. Following the end of the Rosen partnership in 1985, Leon Rosen commissioned architect Steven Holl to build a highly visible showroom on Madison Avenue and East 72nd Street. This new showroom opened in 1986, winning an award from the American Institute of Architects and featuring several custom furniture pieces designed by Holl, and closed after Leon’s death in 2001.
