Provenance: Purchased by the consigner during the Montreal World’s Fair (Expo 1967), Czechoslovakian Pavilion. The '67 Expo was an influential exhibition for the Czechs. Important, large-scale sculpture and one-of-a-kind vessels were exhibited, and the foreign contacts gained by Czech artists at the Montreal Expo were particularly important, especially after the Soviet punitive invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.
