Michael Shearer (1946-2021) American, Art Glass Vase. Mostly clear ovoid shape with light yellow strings stretching up from the bottom and wrapped around the top area as well. Signed and dated 1983 on the underside.

Michael Harry Shearer was born on March 2nd, 1946 in Pasadena, California, and grew up in Shingletown until joining the Navy at the age of 17. He served as a Radioman on the USS Buck during the Vietnam War, and after returning to California he studied art at Costa Mesa College, developing a particular passion for glassblowing. He opened his first studio in Hermosa Beach in 1976, and met Sandra Porter at an art show the following year, who became his assistant and eventually married him in 1983 when they moved to a larger studio in Laguna Niguel. Additionally, he devoted much of his life to spiritual and philosophical pursuits, founding the Center for World Peace and Understanding in 1979 to help the less fortunate in the community. In 1990 they made a final move to Miranda, where they owned and operated Spirit Art Glass until Sandra’s death in 2010. In his final years Shearer obtained a Masters in Psychology at Humboldt State University in 2012 and continued to make new pieces on his own until his passing on March 4th, 2021, with his works found in public, private, and corporate collections around the world, most prominently displayed at the Museum of Art in Laguna Beach.
