Size: 14 x 14 x 8 in.
Michael Nourot was born in Riverside, California in 1949 and discovered glassblowing at an early age, first experimenting with it himself at nine years old and studying with Marvin Lipofsky at the California College of Art and Crafts, where he met his future wife and fellow artist Ann Corcoran. In 1971 Nourot attended the very first session of the Pilchuck Glass School, helping to build the hot shop and furnace and acting as caretaker over the winter, before spending a few years working at the Venini factory in Murano, Italy, one of the few outsiders to ever earn the privilege. Upon his return to the United States he established Nourot Glass Studio in Benicia, California in 1974, and was soon joined by Ann and his son Nicholas in producing some of the most sought after glass art in the early American studio movement. Nicholas took over the studio in 2012 when Michael retired due to worsening health, and Michael passed away on May 14th, 2015, leaving behind an immense legacy of custom works in homes all over the globe, as well as in the Vatican, the Smithsonian Institute, and countless corporate collections.
