Silkscreen art printing, also known as serigraphy or screen printing, is a versatile and vibrant technique in which ink is pushed through a mesh stencil onto a surface, traditionally fabric or paper, to create bold, layered images. Originating from ancient Chinese and Japanese stencil methods, it was popularized in the 20th century by commercial artists and fine artists alike—most famously by Andy Warhol, whose silkscreened portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Campbell’s soup cans became icons of Pop Art. The method allows for striking color saturation, repetition, and precise detail, making it ideal for both graphic design and expressive visual art. Today, silkscreen remains a favored medium for artists exploring mass production, contrast, and textural experimentation.
