Marvin P. Smith (1910–1986) was an American photographer known for his striking portraiture and documentation of mid-20th-century life, particularly in New York City. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Smith moved to Harlem during the Harlem Renaissance, where he and his twin brother, Morgan, established a successful photography studio. His work captured the vibrant culture of Harlem, including images of prominent African American figures, community events, and everyday life. Smith’s photographs are celebrated for their composition, depth, and ability to convey the humanity of his subjects. Today, his work remains a valuable historical record of a transformative era in American history.
