In 1912 jewelers Karl Margraf and Georg Strolau founded Margraf & Co. silverware company in Berlin, Germany. By the end of the year the failing company was acquired by brothers Albert and Leo Loeske, who kept on the managing director Jakob Oppenheimer. After Albert Loeske’s death on October 1, 1929, Jakob and his wife Rosa took over the company, selling a varieties of works all over Europe. In 1933 they were forced to flee Germany for France, and the company and a great deal of art was seized by Bolko von Richthofen at the instruction of Hermann Goring.
