Margarita Luisa Berta Hahn Vidal, also known as M. Hahn Vidal, was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1912. She began painting at a young age, studying at the University of Fine Arts from 1930 to 1934. She is now recognized worldwide for her oil paintings of still lifes, primarily flowers. After marrying Argentinian artist Eduardo Couce Vidal in the late 1930s, they immigrated to the United States and settled in New York, where they had a son. Her exposure to new artists and the scene of the 1940s were the catalyst to making her paintings more vibrant as she began perfecting her knife painting technique. She and her husband traveled extensively, working in a great number of countries, and she was continually inspired by gardens and floral exhibits throughout Europe, America, and Asia. She was honored in the early 2000s as the first Western floral artist to be given an exhibition at the Chinese National Historical Museum in Beijing, China. She passed away in 2005, a little less than a decade after her husband.
