Karlštejn Castle, located southwest of Prague, is a 14th-century Gothic fortress built by Emperor Charles IV between 1348 and 1357. Its original purpose was to safeguard the imperial crown jewels, holy relics, and state treasures of the Holy Roman Empire. The castle was designed as both a defensive stronghold and a spiritual symbol, with its Chapel of the Holy Cross richly adorned with precious stones and paintings. Today, Karlštejn remains one of the Czech Republic's most visited castles, celebrated for its medieval majesty and richly decorated interiors.
