Louis Alexander Hamouy was a noted late 19th- and early 20th-century retailer and importer of fine clocks and decorative arts, based in New York City. Of French origin, Hamouy specialized in high-quality French mantel clocks, garnitures, and art objects, helping bring European craftsmanship to an American clientele during a period of growing interest in luxury home furnishings. His firm became well known for elegant showroom displays and for supplying ornate timepieces in styles such as Rococo and Louis XVI, often featuring gilt bronze and porcelain elements. Today, pieces bearing the Hamouy name are valued by collectors for their association with fine imported French decorative arts and turn-of-the-century sophistication.
