Loredano Rosin was born in Venice, Italy on January 10th, 1936. At the age of twelve his family moved to the island of Murano, where his father Giovanni was employed as a glassblower at the Franchetti Glassworks, and he began to apprentice alongside him a few years later. In 1961 he joined Luigi Pinzan’s glassworks, specializing in creating solid glass ornaments which grew larger and more complicated over time, and in 1963 he created his own studio Artvet along with his brothers Mirko and Dino. However, after just two years he left Artvet to form a partnership with Egidio Costantini, creating figures inspired by or in collaboration with many contemporary greats like Picasso, Chagall, Ernst, and Cocteau. In 1975 Dino joined him as his right-hand man, helping develop their unique “Calcedonia” style, and in 1985 he began exhibiting internationally for the first time, primarily in the United States and England, as well as teaching alongside Dino in 1988 at the Pilchuck Glass School. Tragically, Loredano died in a boating accident in 1992, with Dino taking over their company in the aftermath and earning his own place in the world of art glass, and his works command higher and higher prices among collectors as his contributions to the movement have become clearer and clearer.
Both pieces disconnected from the base.
