She drew with passion and chalk on the streets of New York at a tender age. She copied huge quantities of images from schoolbooks instead of producing homework. Throughout her life, my mother, Lillian, was devoted to being an artist who could master almost any art form that she highly regarded. Mamma had a fine marriage to an affectionate, caring man, my father who loved her dearly and encouraged my mamma to develop these talents throughout their years together. Beloved and admired by friends and family, Lillian was called the "Woman with Golden Hands." Her mother, Fanny, who initially wavered about – being an artist – originally created that description of her daughter in the fifties. Although she never received quite the recognition she deserved, my mother had a unique talent that should still be shared with others as she believed firmly that a piece of art should stand or fall on its own merit.
