Leona Sherwood (1914-2004) American, Oil on Canvas. Titled 'Caribbean Market' on the back. Signed in the lower right. Depicting a town scene with mountains, water, and buildings in the background. There is a market with different vendors in the foreground with people shopping and walking around. Proceeds from this sale will benefit students at the Ringling College of Art & Design.

Born May 20, 1914, in New York City, Leona Sherwood moved to Florida in 1961 from New York City and then came Longboat Key in 1967. She was a nationally recognized painter and art teacher whose contemporary paintings won "Best of Show" awards at the National League of American Penwomen in Washington, D.C. Her works won numerous other awards and she was listed in "Who's Who in American Art" and "World's Who's Who of Women". She taught and conducted workshops in Florida, including Longboat Key, and throughout Europe. She was a member of the Florida Watercolor Society, the New York Artists Fellowship, National League of American Penwomen and numerous other local art organizations.
