Lenox China Reproduction Porcelain Tucker Pitcher for Smithsonian Institution. This piece was made in the mid 20th Century, as part of a collection of reproductions of early American ceramics. Explanatory stamp on underside.

Founded in 1889 by Walter Scott Lenox in Trenton, New Jersey, Lenox began as Lenox’s Ceramic Art Company before rapidly expanding to become the most prestigious American maker of fine tableware. Under the influential 50 year tenure of chief designer Frank Graham Holmes, the brand gained international acclaim and was commissioned to create official china sets for six different presidential administrations. Over the late 20th and early 21st Centuries, the company evolved into a mega-corporation, acquiring major brands like Dansk, Gorham, Reed & Barton, and eventually Oneida. Despite its prestige Lenox navigated severe financial instability, undergoing multiple corporate acquisitions, a 2008 bankruptcy filing, and a private equity takeover in 2020. That same year the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of its North Carolina plant, the last significant bone china factory in the United States, resulting in the decision to shift all manufacturing overseas and shutter its physical retail stores. Today, operating as a globally recognized entity under Centre Lane Partners, Lenox remains one of the world’s largest tableware companies, boasting a strong financial recovery.
