Leila Moore Waldron (1886-1981) was born in Cherry Valley, New York, and became known for her landscape paintings capturing regional scenery. She traveled around the country, painting moody seascapes and luminous town plazas, and is particularly known for her depiction of the historic “Indian Ladder” area, a striking geologic formation located in what is now John Boyd Thacher State Park. Today, her historic artwork is preserved and studied by historical organizations in New York, such as the Knox Historical Society, ensuring her contributions to early 20th Century regional American landscape painting and her status as a pioneering female American artist remain recognized.
