The Ansonia Clock Company was established in 1851 as a subsidiary of Ansonia Brass, utilizing local resources to mass-produce affordable clocks with stamped brass movements. The firm's success grew under President Henry J. Davies, who introduced the desirable figurine and swing clocks that became the brand's signature novelties. Though its primary Brooklyn factory was destroyed by a massive fire in 1880, the company rebuilt and reached its peak in 1886, offering over 225 distinct models to international markets. Expansion continued into the early 20th century with the production of ten million non-jeweled watches and the commissioning of Manhattan's grand Ansonia Hotel. Facing fierce competition and mounting debt after World War I, the company drastically reduced its offerings and eventually sold its machinery to the Soviet government in 1929. The brand's remaining assets were later moved to Washington state, where the business operated until finally closing its doors in 2006.
