Larisa Sekitova (20th/21st Century) Russian Icon of the Virgin of Kazan.

Larsia Sekitova was trained in at the iconography workshop at the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.

The Virgin of Kazan is one of the most revered and venerated icons in the Russian Orthodox Church, believed to be a miraculous representation of the Virgin Mary. The original icon is thought to have been discovered in Kazan, Russia, in 1579, when it was reportedly found by a young girl after a vision. It quickly became a symbol of protection and intercession, playing a key role in the spiritual life of Russia, particularly during times of national crisis, such as the defense against foreign invasions. The icon depicts the Virgin Mary holding the Christ child, with an emphasis on her compassionate gaze and protective gesture. Over time, copies of the icon spread throughout Russia and beyond, and it became associated with various miracles and victories, including the liberation of Moscow from Polish invaders in the early 17th century. The Virgin of Kazan remains a powerful symbol of faith, hope, and national identity in Russia to this day.
