Large Dayak Borneo Tribal Bird Carved Shield Chest. The White eyes can be found most prominently on pieces in Indonesia. Beautifully carved bird that has a shield cover that lifts to use as a small storage area. The weight signifies how solid and authentic it is. Shield has a handle to lift off.
The Dayak tribe primarily resides on the island of Borneo, which is divided among three countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. The largest population of Dayak people is found in the Indonesian part of Borneo, known as Kalimantan. There are also significant Dayak communities in the Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah, as well as in the sultanate of Brunei.
Condition. One side of the birds eye doesn't have the white design. Not sure if it was original.
