Kenneth Koskela was born on August 27th, 1931 in Wolf Lake, Minnesota, and spent his childhood exploring the forests and wildlands near the shores of Lake Superior. His fascination with the beauty and majesty of nature, as well as the many Victorian mansions and buildings of the area, led him to begin drawing and painting. He attended art school in Chicago, assisted by his older sister, a graphic artist, and spent a few years teaching at a private school after obtaining his BA. After a stint in the United States Army he left for Europe, where he traveled across the continent and into Africa pursuing his interests in architecture, history, and classical art. In the late 1950s he returned to the United States and began an intensive career in painting surrealist, miniaturist, symbolist, and humorist pieces, moving frequently until finally settling on the east coast, with his fantastical illustrations appearing in galleries, exhibitions, and museums for over sixty years. He passed away on January 31st, 2022.
