Keith Tallett is a mixed media artist who was born in Hilo, Hawaii in 1969. A second generation surfboard shaper and tattoo practitioner of traditional Polynesian patterns, the process of making art became a way of creating dialogue between his cultural knowledge and Modernist practices. Keith has an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and a BA from the University of Hawaii. He has exhibited at such venues as the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Track 16 Gallery in Los Angeles, and Franklin Parrasch Gallery in New York. He was a founding member of AGGROculture, a Hamakua based art collective, along with his wife, the artist Sally Lundberg. This particular piece demonstrates his style of presenting man’s rituals and their ramifications towards nature by using unusual man-made objects as painting implements, and combines geometric shapes and splatters of paint over a red background.
