Various animals, figures, and other shapes coalesce an open field, creating an abstract melange of interconnected concepts and images reminiscent of Chagall. Signed in pencil bottom right. Junsuke Watarai was born in 1936 in Hokkaido, and studied under Tetsuro Komai at the Musashino Art College. His experiences studying abroad in Paris in the 1950s exposed him to the works of the Impressionists and other modern artists who had a profound influence on his etchings and prints. Since the 1960s he has exhibited widely in renowned Japanese art galleries like Yoseido or Hanga and in many major expositions outside Japan, and has been a frequent participant in the annual CWAJ exhibitions, with his works in public and private collections around the globe.
