Joseph Tanous (B. 1925) American, Mixed Media on Board. 1958 Abstract. Signed and dated in the lower middle. Joseph Tanous is known for Abstract and surreal landscape. Joseph (Joe) Tanous was born in Hettinger, North Dakota on January 10, 1925. He was raised in North Dakota. He spent time during World War II in the Pacific. Tanous studied art at the California College of Arts and Crafts where he earned in BFA degree, then spent 10 years working in commercial art in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He earned his MA from the University of California, Davis. Early in his career he was a teaching assistant for famous painter Wayne Thiebaud. Tanous moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1963. Since 1967 he has combined teaching, with his studio painting endeavors. His works have won 1st Place awards at the Crocker Museum and the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art. Tanous has been an Artist Member of the prestigious Carmel Art Association since 1971.
