Joseph Merierhans was a Swiss artist who emigrated to the US in 1917 and settled in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was a modernist abstract painter and the abstract piece here is an example of his drip art work. The painting is signed in the lower right. The overall size is 49 1/2 x 31 1/2 in. wide and the sight size is 47 x 29 in. wide.
