Joseph A. Pecsenke (1942–1989) was a Hungarian-American artist, printmaker, theater director, actor, musician, and graphic designer whose diverse career bridged the worlds of visual art and performance. Born in Hungary, he studied at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts and worked as an illustrator, poster designer, and muralist before moving to New York in 1971. Pecsenke directed opera internationally and exhibited his artwork in Europe and the United States; his works are held in collections including the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, Yale University, Princeton University, and the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University.
